Tampons Are Poisoning Women, But I Always Knew That

15 years ago I made a great choice to never use a tampon, and I’m sticking with it.

A ‘new’ study by Berkley, Public Health has shown that the beloved tampon can contain toxic metals like lead, arsenic, and cadmium.

New study? I don’t think so.

Just like every girl at a young age who had started their period, I was faced with a choice. I was introduced to the horrible diaper period pad or the tampon. Both could be used if I wanted to, but there was no way I was shoving that thing inside of me for it to get lost or fall out during gym class, so the diaper it was.

Back in school, sometimes the girls would talk about periods when we felt brave and in a safe enough environment to do so. We were only 12 or 13 years old, so sex and reproduction was still a funny topic.

“My mum doesn’t want me using tampons because apparently they can get stuck inside you. She also said they can contain dangerous chemicals.”

The first point was obvious, that’s why I didn’t want to use them. But the second point? What did she mean?

This conversation would have been around the year 2010. Women have known for years that tampons contain disgusting chemicals and can cause toxic…
