The Real Reason Women Should Try Weight Training

Weight training changed my life, and it’s not because it helped me lose weight.

Will it help you lose body fat? Probably. But a different pant size isn’t why you should give resistance training a try. It’s so much bigger than that.

It goes far beyond the physical, beyond the metabolic, and it might just be what makes you actually pick up a dumbbell or barbell—and stick with it for the long haul.

I could sit here and list off the numerous benefits of resistance training and how it’s magical for women’s health. I could tell you all about the physiology, the effects on aging, the myriad of ways in which it will make your heart and bones healthier. But I’m going deeper.

Breaking down expectations

As women, we’re told our entire lives that our worth is based on how small we are, how much we smile, and how little space we take up in this world. Yes, there are powerful women out there, but they are the incredible exception, not the rule. They are the ones who have broken through.
