The Road I've Taken, So Far

Talking about limiting beliefs, I once wrote about how I was always too afraid to take the other road because I believed I wouldn’t be able to overcome the obstacles there.

And referring to “the other road,” I mean an actual route I consistently avoid on my way to work. I’ve written about my unwavering determination to steer clear of it, even in the most extreme scenarios.

One day, I was stuck in a severe traffic jam on my usual route to work, and I had no choice but to take “the other road” to avoid being late. Despite the obstacles it presented, I surprisingly navigated it successfully, arriving at work unscathed and even earlier than expected.

Reflecting on that experience, I saw parallels in my life. I often stayed within my comfort zone, avoiding new challenges just like I used to avoid “the other road.” I held the belief that I lacked the capability and was plagued by thoughts of potential failure.

But realizing I could conquer the challenging road to work, I considered applying the same mindset to life. Perhaps I should stop dwelling on worst-case scenarios and simply take action. After all, we can’t predict the outcome until we give it a try, can we?

So, recently, I’ve embraced this approach. I’ve been exploring various paths to discover my true potential. If an opportunity presents itself, I wholeheartedly pursue it, eager to see where it leads.

While many of these endeavors didn’t yield positive outcomes, I found valuable lessons in each. Gathering knowledge has made me a more well-rounded individual, increasing my chances of discovering another promising “road.”

The road I once feared to take due to self-doubt is now one I traverse with unwavering confidence. Here’s an update on every “road” I took:

I always aspired to study abroad but lacked the confidence to even search for courses or scholarships. I used to believe I wasn’t capable, not good, or smart enough to be accepted. Now, although I haven’t been accepted anywhere, I’m glad I’ve taken numerous tests, courses, and scholarship consultations, even submitting a few applications. At least I’ve tried, and I won’t sit around wondering what it’s like to pursue study abroad opportunities. I know it now, and even if I’m not accepted in the end, I can take pride in the fact that I gave it my all.

I love writing (well, obviously) and I’ve always wanted to write about important current issues. I used to fear that people wouldn’t like it or wouldn’t agree with my thoughts. However, I’ve let go of those worries and started writing about these topics. I don’t really mind what other people's responses would be; the first important thing is that I’ve tried to raise awareness about ongoing issues. Surprisingly, many people share my views, and I’m glad I spoke up. Writing about significant topics has not only boosted my writing confidence but has also broadened my understanding of the world from different perspectives.

In my ongoing writing journey, I decided to submit my essays to various competitions. To my amazement, I won a place in an education-themed essay competition held by a local publisher. My essay is set to be published in an anthology book they’re releasing. This accomplishment is significant for me because I once considered my writing just a leisurely pursuit, not something to win in a competition. I’m grateful I took this path, as it’s led me to experience the joy of receiving my first writing award.

I’m thrilled and grateful for all I’ve gained by choosing to take the “other road” and shedding my limiting beliefs.

I’m relieved and recommend you to do the same.

Step out of your comfort zone and explore that other road! The life that awaits is full of incredible surprises and an amazing journey. I promise you.
