Celebrity power couple Jennifer Lopez (JLo) and Ben Affleck got hitched over the weekend in Las Vegas.

This is not a typical love story.

It’s a tale of two lovers who in the early 2000s were among the most prominent celebrity couples. When they got engaged in 2003, the press was all over them, naming them Bennifer.

JLo was 32 and Affleck was 29.

A year later, they called off the engagement and went on with their lives.

Both got married to other people, had kids, and got divorced. Twenty years after they first got engaged, they rekindled their long-lost love to finally wed.

Lost-and-found love

The statistics is not promising for marriages in the US. Almost 50 percent end in divorce or separation. And 41% of all first marriages end in divorce.

But, there’s good news for long-lost lovers like JLO and Affleck who give love a second chance.

In 1997, Dr. Nancy Kalish, a professor emeritus at California State University, conducted a survey of lovers who had broken up and then rekindled at least five years later.
