Women’s Scars
Necessity won over yearning; shadow won over light.
In the absence of a belly full of love, lives a quiet emptiness.
Necessity won over yearning;
shadow won over light.
Silence is less painful than the barrage of questions about parenthood.
“When are you planning on having your first?…
But why not? You’d be such a great mom”!
How do you heal from missing someone who was never fully formed?
Through twinges of longing, when children are everywhere,
for everyone else.
Guilt sneaks in, an uninvited shadow, whispering relentlessly.
“But this was your choice.
You robbed your family.”
Shame burns like a fever.
Acceptance sprints to keep pace with shame;
it catches up and washes over like cool water.
Yoga class breath, hand on belly during meditation begins as another reminder of the emptiness inside.
Until emptiness shifts into spaciousness,
a reminder of room created for a different life’s path.
