You’ve been thinking about it for months. Years maybe.

This friend you’ve known forever, you’ve grown up together, and you thought you’d grow old together too.

You don’t have to.

No if the friendship is painful, heavy, complicated. Friends are for pulling you up, not bringing you down.

Life is about finding those who bring you joy — this is what I’m reminding myself as I want to break up for good with a friend.

It’s hard to let go of people you love and have so many fond memories with. But it’s harder to live surrounded by people who don’t bring the best out of you.

After not seeing my friend for seven months, I know I’ve made the right decision. It was scary at first but I’m better now, and that’s how I know.

You Think Good Friends Don’t Do This

Why not?

Because we’re scared.

Scared to go through the process of no longer doing life with them.

To break up with them, there would have to be a mistake, a betrayal, something unacceptable that would justify ending the friendship.
