You’re Blind Drunk… I’m Not Judging, but Aren’t You Concerned About Your Safety?

Because I truly am for you!

I just watched a video one of my friends shared from a group outing. In it, one woman was so blind drunk that she was struggling to walk, and I have to admit — I was shocked.

The drunk lady, in her forties, was with a group of ‘friends’ — but more likely acquaintances — and the video was showing the moment when a couple of men and women were shoving her into an Uber. Everyone around her, similarly inebriated, was laughing with (at?) her.

The visual memento was shared in a local Whatsapp group chat with over 600 members. Several people reacted with laughing emojis, one gave a praise emoji, and someone commented, ‘Looks like it was a fun night!’

Nobody asked if she got home safely, and no one seemed concerned about the alcohol abuse. It seemed that for everyone it was all good fun… but what if the next time it wasn’t?

I rarely drink. It’s not just about health. If asked, I say I don’t like the taste, which is true, but between us, the real reason is that I hate losing control. I like to stay aware of my surroundings, and the idea of being powerless doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t do drugs for the same reason.
