Three Factors Influencing Obesity

Recent events following COVID-19 outbreak left millions of people in a state of panic, for which the only reasonable solution was apparently overstocking on toilet papers and dry grains.

Deep reflection on this human behavior led me to conduct extensive study on our tendency towards hoarding. This, further, led me to the belief that in some cases our hoarding habits may be one of the causes for rise in obesity in the modern age.

Way back to the time of hunters, gatherers, and foragers; nomadic lifestyle was the norm.

“Foragers moved house every month, every week, and sometimes even every day, toting whatever they had on their back.” — Sapiens

When these foragers ran into a marvelous garden of ripe mango and cherry fruits — they hoarded as much as was physically possible, knowing that they may never have run into such a lush garden again.

“Upper Paleolithic humans, much like arctic jays and squirrels, began to cache food systematically so as to serve as a buffer against uncertainty.” — Sapiens
