Hello! So I’ve done a tiny bit of work to Modwat.ch recently, and some of the changes probably aren’t the easiest to figure out. Not because you aren’t the smartest user ever! It’s more about me and my lack of any design prowess. So since this is the internet, what better way to explain what’s changed than sweet, sweet gifs?

The Menu

So ever since the first version of the site came out, I’ve hated the menu. It’s a weirdly offset list of ugly grey buttons. And on top of that, they’re small enough that you can’t really tell what any of them do. So the new menu is a nice fancy hamburger dropdown. Click the big orange hamburger, receive buttons. Simple enough.

The top button will open a login modal. This allows you to log into the site with the same username and password you use in the uploader. Or you can go straight to the userlist page.

Once you’ve logged in, the options are a bit different. You’ll now see a gear, which takes you to a settings page. This settings page allows you to change your password, which I’ve heard is something websites allow nowadays. You can still go to the userlist page. And you also have the option to log out. And that’s pretty much it! You can keep the menu open as you navigate on a bigger screen, or hide it if you’re on mobile or using a smaller window.

Searching for Users/Mods

So searching for users has been a feature for a while. It just hasn’t worked very well. Long story short, I implemented it really really badly. But the new site and API changes have made them much faster. So if you want to look for a modlist for a streamer you follow, or maybe forgot the name of your alt, search should be helpful!

Searching for mods is a little more fun. For now it only supports modlists from Mod Organizer, since it’s only searching through modlist.txt files. But if you want to get a list of modlists using Alternate Start, or Frostfall, or Sevenbase, just select “Mods” from the dropdown and plug it in!

Well that’s all the user-facing changes for this update. Let me know if I missed anything, or if something didn’t quite make sense. I’m not going to be very consistent in when I update, but I’ll probably get around to revamping the modlist pages next, since they’ve needed some love for a while.
