Welcome to our very first Moeda Seed Project, Cooperval!

COOPERVAL is a small cooperative made up of 22 families, more than 50 kilometers from the city of Formosa, in the central region of Brazil.

The cooperative’s revenues come from the production, processing and sale of seasonal fruit pulp, vegetables and baked goods for the feeding of students from the municipal schools of Formosa.

With low income they have great difficulty in increasing production capacity and consequently increasing the income of the cooperative and the families involved.

The project presented aims to receive financing to increase the production capacity of the cooperative through the purchase of machinery and equipment.

With the low profit that the enterprise generates today, we observed that it would be very difficult for them to pay the financing in a sustainable way.

When Moeda became aware of the purposes of Cooperval, we contributed to the development of its bussiness plan and will help it through the development of projects with baru, a nut typical of that region.

Rich in oil and considered a medicinal plant, the baru can serve the cosmetics and food industries among other nuts. Currently, the cooperative sells 1kg of Baru for approximately $ 13.

At Moeda Seed Program, we developed a business plan and helped establish a partnership with a local brewery for the recipe, production, and marketing of 1,000 bottles of handcrafted beer with Baru nuts, and each bottle will be sold for $ 13.00.

With the profit obtained from the commercialization of beer, the cooperative will be able to pay the investment and acquire the machinery and equipment that will help in the development and increase of the production of the enterprise.

Profits from the sale will be invested in the purchase of computers to increase the management capacity of the cooperative in machines and equipment for the processing of Baru nuts, adding value and increasing the profitability of this product.

Cooperval will develop the production of baru seedlings and will spread its planting to more than 3,000 families of family farmers, transforming an extractive activity into a commercial and environmentally relevant activity, which is the replanting of native species from the Cerrado(brazilians savanah), guaranteeing the sustainability of the business. And, in order to increase the production of vegetables for the maintenance of its supply with the municipal and state schools and for attending to other publics, Moeda with the proceeds from the commercialization of beer, will install fields of fruit and vegetable production with drip irrigation, with equipment of great productivity, with little use of water and without use of electric energy.

The $ 8,000 funding for this project will have all of your fees paid in 4 months and investors will receive a 10% bonus on your contribution. In addition, this project meets 3 of the UN’s sustainable development goals — industry, innovation and infrastructure; reduced inequalities; and responsible consumption and production.

After this first project presented the idea is to replicate beer production on a constant basis and use its profits to acquire more equipment and develop more products and increase the income of families involved in the cooperative.

Please check out the project page for more details and invest to humanize finances and distribute impact!
