Moja at DotSafari: Exploring the Future of Borderless Group Savings in Africa

Introduction

The Moja team recently attended the DotSafari Conference held at the beautiful Chui Lodge in Naivasha, Kenya. The event took place from March 30th to April 1st, bringing together a diverse group of developers, artists, and blockchain enthusiasts. During the conference, we had the opportunity to network, learn about innovative projects, and receive valuable feedback on Moja’s borderless group savings app.

Hackathon Highlights

One of the main attractions at the conference was the hackathon, where teams of developers and artists collaborated to build innovative projects using the Polkadot network. Two projects that caught our attention were the Chama App — a web3 Chama app — and LLendr, a yield pool application.

While we didn’t participate in the hackathon, our team engaged with the creators of these projects, sharing our insights and introducing them to Moja. We found the interactions to be both enlightening and inspiring, as we discovered new ways to leverage the Polkadot ecosystem for our app.

We were thrilled to receive positive feedback from conference attendees, such as Obed Omwenga, a software developer and founder from Nairobi who led the Yield app team. Obed instantly grasped Moja’s value proposition and expressed enthusiasm about its potential. He has offered to introduce us to his web3 founder network as well as his personal chama networks, which we look forward to exploring further.

Reflection and Growth

The conference also provided our team with an opportunity to reflect on our progress and align our goals. We were proud of our ability to deliver a new version of the app in a short period and are committed to improving our processes for adding new features and enhancing the user experience.

As we continue to develop Moja, we will focus on streamlining our testing process and delivering high-quality, user-friendly updates to our growing community of users.
