Moloch DAO has $4m+ to grant and is opening up sub-guilds

Today is Moloch DAO’s two year anniversary and we are announcing an innovative new system in order to better facilitate our mission of giving targeted grants for projects across the Ethereum ecosystem relating to privacy, layer 2 scaling, client security, and more.
Moloch DAO is a guild, but we will now have sub-guilds. Sub-guilds are factions that will research and vet high quality proposals with an independent focus. People can collaborate within a sub-guild and then apply for DAO membership. Members of the DAO can propose new sub-guilds.
We currently have ~$4.6m at our disposal and invite you to bring your blood, sweat, and ideas to Moloch DAO.
Moloch DAO was deployed to the Ethereum blockchain on February 14, 2019. Its goal per the original whitepaper was to “to fund and further the development of public infrastructure related to Eth 2.0.”
Since inception, Moloch has awarded ~$700,000 in grants ranging from projects like DApp Node, Ethereum Cat Herders, Tornado Cash, Lodestar, Lighthouse, clr.fund, and multiple reports — State of Eth2.0 (2019), State of the Mixers (2019), State of Optimistic Rollup (Feb 2020), Eth2.0 Economic Review (July 2020).
We have also inspired Moloch members to design alternative funding systems such as Open Grants which currently has 3600 ETH allocated to Eth2.0 development.
The impact of Moloch as a DAO in servitude to Ethereum will be accelerated by funding a synergetic portfolio of projects and also have an ecosystem of builders and thinkers that will collectively help make the projects we fund successful. That is the power of what a DAO model has to offer, as opposed to a traditional VC or foundation model.
This is coming to life in the form of a new sub-guild system, to identify and enable important funding gaps (beyond Eth 2.0!) and receive operational budgets to organize as research groups. Sub-guilds can also operate as a bootstrapping force that provides acceleration, strategy, talent pooling and funding and ensures great ideas get the funding support they deserve. The funding thesis of Moloch’s first sub-guild, Guild1, is about advancing privacy and user experience within the Ethereum ecosystem. Guild1 exists as a body within Moloch DAO to help drive adoption to standards, protocol changes, applications, coding patterns and SDKs that will protect all of our user’s fundamental human rights, with privacy at the core.
