What does your MomBoss business do for people?
I offer French <-> English translation, interpreting, tutoring, private and group lessons, and corporate training.
Why did you start this business? What motivates and drives you through the grind?
I left my job as a French teacher to become a stay-at-home mom. Dropping our family down to one salary was a big adjustment, but losing my “professional purpose” was even bigger! I needed a way to keep working and still be able to commit the majority of my days to raising my child.
Starting my own business was perfect because I can set my own schedule and take on as much or as little work as I decide. What drives me is my love for the French language! I consider what I do enjoyable, and am very lucky to be able to add to our family income doing something I love.
If you were a super hero, what would your super power be and why?
It would definitely be the ability to manage a million different schedules. Exciting? Maybe not… worthy of the title “super power”? Absolutely!
What song do you crank up when you need a boost or are celebrating a business victory?
Anything by Salt n Peppa
What’s the best book you’ve read this year?
Finding Fontainebleau, by Thad Carhart
We love to play business match maker. What area of your business could you use help with or person that our network can connect you to directly?
I am always looking to connect with people and businesses that need French <-> English translation services.
What’s your favorite social media network for business and why?
LinkedIn for translation, Facebook for tutoring. LinkedIn makes it easier to connect with corporations and to know the right person to get in touch with. Facebook is great to reach parents of students who need a little extra help with French class.
If anything were possible, where do you see your company 1 year from now?
My business would consist of 50% translation work, 25% tutoring/lessons/corporate training, and 25% in-person interpreting jobs in France.
