--

Schools across the country have extended spring break and many are already considering canceling traditional, butts in seats, classrooms for the entire year. This means millions of parents are facing online education and homeschooling for the very first time.

It is hard.

I am NOT cut out for this homeschooling thing with 2 kids in Kindergarten and 2nd grade. I am having to learn just like many of you during this trying time that has us cooped up indoors and at home.

First thing I noticed is that I am trying to work from home and need a break from one on one time with the kids. Yet, I don’t want them to completely engross themselves during the ‘school day’ with iPads and worthless TV that is not providing education so I can get 1 hour of emails done.

Insert Educational Movie Time

Many movies for kids are not only a source of entertainment, but can also be a powerful medium to educate.

So here are my selections for educational movies that the kids can watch during the school day so you can get some work done, save some sanity and make it worth both your time.

Through the story and the interactions of these characters, the movie teaches children about the importance of understanding and managing their emotions, the role of different emotions in shaping their personalities, and the impact of their emotions on their experiences and behavior. Additionally it also shows how some emotions that are not often talked about as positive (like sadness) are important and necessary for a well-functioning mind and person.
