At 4:30am I left Los Angeles for an epic day in the Bay Area. Arrived in San Francisco at 10am to visit a couple coffee shops (Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters and Saint Frank Coffee) before crossing the Bay Bridge to Alameda Island. The section of the island which was once a Navel Air Base is now a mecca for new businesses including Breweries, Distilleries and a Malting Company (Admiral Maltings).

Ales for ALS™ Festival celebrated it’s 5th year at Faction Brewing.

As explained on the official website, “Ales for ALS™ is a concept where participating breweries would be offered access to an experimental hop blend, free of charge. In exchange, the breweries would brew a special beer with these hops and donate a portion of their beer sales to the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI).”

The 2018 hop blend includes 40% Eukuanot™, 15% HBC 438, 15% HBC 344, 10% Simcoe®, 10% Loral™, 5% HBC 630, and 5% HBC 520.
