On a sunny Sunday evening in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles, several breweries from the surrounding area setup their tents and jockey boxes for the fourth DTLA Breweries United Fest.

The event takes place in Triangle Park or what most people know as the triangle parking lot next to Angel City Brewery that touches Rose Street, 3rd Street and Traction Avenue.

This Bi-Annual event brought together Angel City Brewery, Arts District Brewing, Dry River Brewing, Iron Triangle Brewing, Boomtown Brewery, Indie Brewing Company, Highland Park Brewery and Mumford Brewing.

Each brewery brought at least two of their signature beers along with one tent designated to showcase a special beer brought just for the event. Every 30 minutes a different DTLA Brewery would take over the jockey boxes to showoff what they’ve got.

Under the same tent was a special collaboration beer between all eight breweries called From Whence It Came. The beer was a Smoked Gose with Ocean Water, Grapefruit and Lime, which was described as “A recreation of a tragic brewing experiment in which our beer was lost at sea”. From what I was told the beer was brewed during a beach camping trip. To cool the wort the brewers carried the pot into the ocean, but a slip of the hand dropped a good portion into the sea. Regardless of the yield loss the beer paired perfectly with the weather at 4.0% ABV. The salt mixed with the citrus flavors of Grapefruit and Lime reminisced of a refreshing mescal on a hot summers day.
