10 Signs You’re The Family Outcast

Certain phenomena are universal in the human condition. One of the the more tragic things we’ve all seen is the tale of the kid who was clearly not wanted by their family. It’s a tale as old as time, really.

There are several different types of Family Outcast that I’ve seen happen in my life:

  • The Hated-At-Birth. Often a child who was an accidental pregnancy or an illegitimate child, their parents take it out on them.
  • The Black Sheep. This is the kid who is just not fully accepted because they were always different or refused to conform to family expectations.
  • The Envy Target. Sick as it is, some kids are outcasted by families because their parents are jealous of them. This most often happens with girls.
  • The Scapegoat. This is common in narcissist families. One child can do no wrong, and the other child is blamed for everything — even stuff they can’t control.

When you’re a Family Outcast, you were never accepted as a true member of the family. This type of shunning happened without any real reason. I mean, they weren’t drug addicts at 8…
