What Does “Security” Really Mean?

I remember when 9/11 was happening. It made us all feel quite insecure on many levels. We were attacked and after that, there were a lot of unknowns.

9/11 likely had very little impact on most of the country, except of course for sadness at lost lives, but in New York City, it was devastating.

Now we find ourselves in a situation where the entire world is feeling the way New Yorkers in Lower Manhattan felt, but amplified. The virus outbreak has taken away freedoms, taken away the trust that you can say hi to someone on the street, knowing that you have a job that will not vanish, and added that there is very little you can depend on. The only thing it has not taken away is the notion that those you share love with are likely not going to vanish. Some may die though, which really does suck.

So what is security and how can we get it back? If you are living with it, you probably do not understand fully what it is like to lose it. If you have lost it already, then you get it. Getting it back once lost is a process. A process you should embrace.

OK, back to “how we get it back”. It really depends on what you mean by “security”.
