What’s happening in Downtown Midland? Here’s a brief summary.
Last time we talked, we told you that 2017 was going to be a big year for downtown Midland. (We weren’t lying.) From public infrastructure investments at The Tridge, The Courthouse, & The Main Street Streetscape to public programming like Movies On Main and The Bike Midland bikeshare program — there is a lot going on and a lot of moving pieces.
In order to keep you informed, we’re publishing updates. This newsletter won’t cover everything all at once; however, it will be a great place to start. (P.S. For your convenience, we’re also keeping an online archive of our previous newsletters. That way if you want more information about a project not covered in our most recent post, you can access it with one click of your mouse.)

Downtown Opportunity Summit
Topic: Incremental Development
We’re bringing Jim Kumon, the executive director of The Incremental Development Alliance, to Midland on April 13. The free, A.M., Ted-Talk-esque presentation will focus on ways to empower citizens and investors alike through small-scale, urban, in-fill development. If you’re wondering, “Is this presentation for me?” The answer is YES, it’s for you. Jim’s presentation is perfect for anyone who has an idea for downtown Midland, anyone who wants to dive deeper into “urbanist” thinking, or anyone who wants to learn more about small-scale investments.

Movies On Main
Seven Sponsors Needed
ACE Hardware, The Midland Downtown Business Association and Momentum Midland are working together to bring Movies on Main back for 10 weeks in Summer 2017.
The cost to bring free, outdoor movies to Downtown Midland is $500 per week (or roughly $5,000 for the entire summer). To cover this cost, the planning committee for this event is seeking weekly sponsorships from businesses and individuals. Three organizations have already stepped up to sponsor a week (Thanks, Great Lakes Loons, Greater Midland, and McMahan, Thomson & Associates!); however, the planning committee is still looking for SEVEN more sponsors.

The West Entranceway Project
Reinvestment on the downtown block of Fitzhugh, Indian, Jerome,and Buttles
Our next project: The West Entranceway. This project focuses on the reinvestment of an entire city block in Downtown Midland by removing blighted homes, leveling land, creating a community entranceway, and encouraging additional private investment on site.
