What’s happening in Downtown Midland? Here’s a brief summary.
Some amazing projects are underway in downtown Midland. The bids process is wrapping up for Main Street’s new streetscape project, the Tridge is receiving some maintenance and upgrades, and the courthouse is currently under construction. In case that isn’t enough, we’ve got updates on a couple of other projects — as well.
To keep things simple, we have highlighted just two of our projects launching in June. Keep scrolling below for more details.
BIKES, BIKES, and more BIKES!
The region’s first-ever bikeshare system is coming to Midland, MI! Yup — a bikeshare system. You might be asking yourself, “What the heck is a bikeshare system?” (Don’t worry — you are not alone.) A bikeshare system is a network of bicycles that is available for community members, visitors, and local employees to rent/ride for a small fee — all with the download of a mobile app.
Launch & Locations
The Bike Midland program will officially launch in mid-June. The system will have 7 stations and 35 bikes. Proposed station locations include: The Greater Midland Community Center, Dow Diamond, Discovery Square, The Tridge, Northwood University, Downtown Midland and The Senior Services Center of Midland County. Stay tuned for a final list of locations.
Membership & Cost
Bike Midland will be broken down into three different membership types— an annual, a monthly, and an hourly membership.
ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP — $30 per year (Less than one tank of gas!)
— First 2 hours of every ride free; $3 every hour after that
MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP — $10 per month
— First 1 hour of every ride is free; $3 every hour after that
HOURLY MEMBERSHIP — $3 per hour
— $3 per hour of use
Memberships will go on sale in early June! As an added bonus, the first 50 people to sign-up for an annual membership get a free, custom Bike Midland t-shirt & sticker.
The Bike Midland bikeshare system is supported through grant funding from the Midland Area Community Foundation, through donations from The Patricia and Dave Kepler Foundation, and through user fees. The sources listed above cover the majority of costs for the three year trial-period of the Bike Midland program.
