Hush

A poem for my children

The starlight sighs
Over tired eyes
Even the gold moon slows its rise
Hush

It’s not easy
Learning to be
Sleep helps tired minds open clearly.
Hush.

Dream of the light
Blotting out night
Tomorrow will be new and bright
Hush.

I’ll be right here
Always right near
Now dam your tears and damn your fear.
Hush.

Whimpers subside
Dreams will abide
You’ll wake to find me by your side.
Hush.

The night is deep
Now go to sleep
For in dreams we find quiet keep.
Hush.
Hush.
Hush.
