Don’t Let the Little Circus in Your Head Hold You Back
You don’t know what’s coming next, so write when you can
Wake Up and Write is a regular advice column from Moms Don’t Have Time to Write. Today, we have Naomi Davis — creator of the blog, Love Taza, and author of A Coat of Yellow Paint: Moving Through the Noise to Love the Life You Live — who shared writing advice on the podcast Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books, hosted by Zibby Owens.
“I’m very much a perfectionist.”
“Sometimes I can find a lot of excuses because I want it to be right. I think it applies to a lot of other things I’ve done in my life too. Sometimes I think, ‘I really want to do that thing, but I need to make sure I have the proper time to give it. I need to make sure that everything’s in its place so that I can do that the way I want it to happen.’
Life is bonkers. You don’t know what’s going to happen. You don’t know where you’re going to be in five years.
I think it’s important to just do it. I think we are good at coming up with a lot of excuses or saying, ‘Maybe I just put this on pause, maybe I’ll hold it.’ If you want to do it, you can do it. You can find the ten- or twenty-minute pockets here or there to start. I do believe there’s a season for everything.
Just do it. Don’t let the little circus in your head hold you back.”
