Wake Up and Write is a regular advice column from Moms Don’t Have Time to Write. Today, we have Alicia Keys— Grammy Award-winning musician, producer, actress, entrepreneur, activist, and author of More Myself: A Journey— who shared writing advice on the podcast Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books, hosted by Zibby Owens.

“Try to be unafraid of insecurity. I know that’s hard.”

“The insecurity is real. So is the doubt and all the other things that come into our heads trying to make us feel like we are unable to achieve something. Acknowledge that everybody feels that. Everybody goes through that. No one really knows what they’re doing. Everybody is just trying to figure it out.

I would say to have the will to try your idea, to try to put it out there, to put it into words or put it into song, to put it into action, and know that what you’re going to learn from it, what’s going to come back from it is going to surprise you in the most amazing way. It’s going to get you to the next place that you’re meant to go.

That’s what I would share.”
