Wake Up and Write is a regular advice column from Moms Don’t Have Time to Write. Today, we have Dan Lotti— the bighearted vocalist and lyricist behind the band Dangermuffin and production team The Moon Brothers— who shared writing advice on the podcast Moms Don’t Have Time to Read Books, hosted by Zibby Owens.

“If you’re doing what you love and your heart’s in the right place, you just have to keep going.”

“Everything that comes along, all the challenges are there for you to experience; they will allow you to hone your craft. Do it for yourself. Never do it for anybody else. It’s always about your healing and your process.

Once you put the emphasis on that and go into the darkness and keep putting one foot in front of the other, then you will inevitably make progress. That would be my advice. Do what you love and the rest will follow. It creates abundance in your life. If you’re not in it for the right reasons, it will be revealed to you. The artistic path is a purification.”
