A kind experiment

Let’s do a quick exercise before I share the experiment with you.

Close your eyes and assess how you feel right now- at this exact moment. Try to be objective about it- don’t be self-critical for feeling whatever it is that you find yourself feeling. Just close your eyes and observe what is it that you are feeling at this moment.

Please do this quick exercise now before reading any further.

Before we begin, I want you to really understand that whatever came up for you in your assessment is alright. There is NO right or wrong way to feel within yourself.

Now that you have a fair idea of what you feel, onto the experiment.

No matter how you felt, for the rest of the day I want you to make one choice- treat yourself with kindness. Just the way you would a little child if they shared with you exactly what you realized about your own feelings. If the child felt excited and happy; you would share in her excitement, wouldn’t you? And if she felt sad or was struggling you would help her, tell her that everything is alright , and encourage her to take it easy. Now do that to (and for) yourself.

Just try this today. And if you feel better because of it try it whenever you like.

‘We often wait for kindness but being kind to yourself can start now’ said the mole. ‘Often the hardest person to forgive is yourself’

(From The Boy, the mole, the fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy)
