Cherish the absence

The worst temporary physical ailment you can get is a cold. You walk around feeling soulless for many days.

The only thing worse than a cold, is an ulcer (this is my personal observation; it may definitely be different in your case). I had one this last week and I must have noticed it’s presence in my life and mouth at least a 100 times during those 7 days.

What we fail to notice, however is it’s absence. Once it goes away, we forget that it was ever there. We forget the pain experienced during brushing, eating and various other activities. We take it’s absence for granted until it comes back.

Why is it that we cherish only the presence of things in life (as short-lived as that maybe)- a new bag, a new restaurant, a new house but we never stop to cherish the absence of things that caused us pain. Just like the ulcer, the absence of certain things can also be a reason to be thankful in life.
