Mind Sweep
More often than not, when we are trying to achieve something we are not able to give ourselves entirety to the task. We do not experience the state of flow which is supposed to help us master the task as well as enjoy it. This happens because our mind is cluttered and clouded with thoughts and things that remain being done.
This is where a 2 minute mind sweep comes in handy. Stop what you are doing, take a note pad (or a notes app) and in 2 minutes list down all the things that come to your mind in whatever order.
To give you perspective of what this might look like- I just did mine and the first few things on my list were- Write musing, Plan Yoga schedule, Section wise de-clutter, Action a pending work e-mail…
Now action any 2–3 items immediately. And set up tasks and assign a time for those tasks for the rest of the items in the list.
Develop a system of reminders- alarms, keep notes, Google tasks- whatever works for you. But the idea is to keep the least amount of information floating around your head.
Being able to achieve simply the mind sweep, you can feel a lot more present in the task at hand as it defines the reason for our over whelmed feeling.
Give it a try!
P.S- This is not an original concept. It is a concept taught by David Allen who widely talks about Stress Free Productivity. You can see his TEDx video here.
