Besides daily meditation, I use this quick simple tool, that I heard about in a video a long time ago, in order to stay out of my head. Here’s how you would go about it.

Take a few deep breaths and say out loud:

5- things you see in your surroundings

4- things you feel (eg- your back on the chair, hair on shoulder, etc.)

3- things you hear

2- things you smell

1- thing you taste

This exercise stops you from spiraling by making you present to your immediate surroundings which in turn calms you down. It brings awareness which puts you in the driver’s seat of your life.

It reminds me of the countdown a camera operator would do before you go live on camera. You get the 5 to 1 countdown to collect yourself and bring yourself to a place where you can give the present moment your undivided attention. Just how you’d want to in life :)
