Why WhatsApp read receipt is not cool?
Short answer
Not cool? You gotta be kidding. It’s the coolest way to realise your expectation levels.
Long answer
This mainly applies to those who are either hitting on a girl or are in love or just had a break-up. I think whatsapp’s read receipt icon is one great hope to a person who awaits reply. Let me explain.
After you see this icon, the very next moment you look at the network indicator and hopes it get delivered. If the icon still remains in this state, you show pseudo maturity and guess that the other person is either out of network or must have switched off the phone.
A day or two later, you see it got delivered and are happy. Expectation #1 fulfilled. But now you await till it turns blue.
Your anxienty levels increase and you send a followup message. Still no reply or no sign of your friend reading it. You think hard about calling and asking if “is all ok?”, but ego / shyness don’t let you do that. Or sometimes you just want to give space so avoid bothering him or her. Then finally, couple of days later…
