With an ability to speak with non-technical people in a way that helps them understand the value and nuances of tech, Harper Reed will have a major presence at Monetery, the premier tech summit in the Midwest. Reed is in demand as a speaker around the country and he is regarded as a thought leader on far-ranging subjects from artificial intelligence to politics.

Reed has a deep tech background and is currently a Director’s Fellow at the MIT Media Lab in Boston, Mass. His professional experience includes being Chief Technology Officer of the Obama Presidential Campaign in 2012 and of skinnyCorp from 2005–2009. Reed was also a leader on the software development team at PayPal from 2015–2018.

At Monetery, Reed will explain the value of building ethical software and how problems can be solved with diverse teams and positive user experiences.

“The way Harper approaches team building is a perfect fit for Monetery,” says Stephanie Atkin, Dwolla’s VP of Marketing. “Monetery is about celebrating diversity in technology and encouraging it. Harper not only does this, but he takes it to another level.”

According to his website, Reed can be found hacking on personal projects and enjoying life in Chicago, Ill. with his partner Hiromi and “beautiful and bizarre poodle, Lulu.” He believes the talent of a bunch of good humans can transform an organization, one of the underlying beliefs that informs Monetery — that dedicated inventors, believers and creators can grow a tech ecosystem anywhere.

He uses that belief to strengthen, deploy and inspire the teams that he works with.

Reed graduated from Cornell College in 2001 with a Computer Science degree and now serves on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater.

Reed will be one of several speakers at Monetery on May 21–22 in downtown Des Moines, on a growing list that includes Lindsay Knight, Director of Platform at Chicago Ventures, Martina Lauchengco, Operating Partner at Costanoa Ventures and Matthew Prince, Co-Founder & CEO of Cloudflare.

Monetery will provide attendees with ample networking opportunities to connect with and hear from these successful tech founders and investors.
