The Toughest Job In the World Right Now Is Being the CEO Of A Tech Company

After a tech company’s CEO, the second toughest job would probably be the Director of Spy Operations at the CIA. But I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t be grilled as much as Mark Zuckerberg by tabloids and congress members.

Sundar Pichai’s New Job

Google’s co-founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin have stepped down from their positions in Alphabet, the parent company of Google. Sundar Pichai, who is already the CEO of Google, will now also become the CEO of Alphabet.

Why Now?

In recent years, Page and Brin weren’t seen at many public events and Google headquarters. Even employees and U.S lawmakers were mad when they wanted answers from Page rather than Pichai about controversial projects such as an experimental search app for Chinese users. Also, Page’s health condition has driven the firm to find a new person, which turned out to be Pichai.

What’s Waiting For Pichai?

Page, Brin and Pichai have always been eager to develop artificial intelligence to make web searching faster and more personalised. This sounds awesome but governments on five continents are asking for better regulations and more taxes from the company.

That brings us to my next point — Being a Tech CEO at this time and age is worse than working for Salman Khan’s PR agency.

CEOs In Distress

Facebook has been fined multiple times in the past few years for its data scandals. Hence, the firm’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg is constantly apologising in congressional hearings.

Apple came under huge pressure on reports that iPhones were having Chinese spy chips.

Hence, Tim Cook, the CEO of apple is trying his best to be on the good side of President Trump (visiting White House multiple times, taking Trump on factory tours), to get an exemption from China tariffs.

In conclusion, Pichai has a lot on his shoulders. He shouldn’t invite any more regulatory action and earn the trust of the users, shareholders and political leaders. So, Pichai has to change the structure of the firms, technologically and politically, so that they continue being one of the greatest tech companies ever existed.

Do you think Pichai along with other tech CEOs is prepared for this task?
