The Irony Of Advocating For A Moneyless Society Under A Global Monetary System

Why We Think It’s Worth It To Go Against The Grain

Yes, it’s ironic. We know…

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “It takes money to make money” right?

It takes money to make just about anything these days, and that definitely includes the systems and structures that might eventually make money obsolete.

We all live in a capitalist system (unfortunately), and as much as we would like to go about our lives and somehow participate in the modern world without needing money, at present that’s not a reality (yet).

But so goes the joke…”You criticize money and the capitalist system…yet you use money to buy groceries.” Or something to that effect…

We understand it’s ironic for an organization named “Moneyless Society” to be in need of money. It possibly even sounds a bit silly.

We agree.

But…

Is it hypocritical, though? No, not at all.

It would be hypocritical for a person to say they want to live by cooperative principles, without money, and actually have the capability to do so, and then choose not to do it.

It would be hypocritical for a member of Moneyless Society to promote the creation of a moneyless society, where people cooperate and show compassion to one another on an economic and systemic level, and then to go out and start a huge capitalist enterprise where we’d exploit people and resources and seek wealth at other’s expense.

That would be the definition of hypocrisy.

And that’s not what we’re doing.

What we are doing is creating awareness about the possibility of a new world. We want to build these new systems and structures, as well, and we are looking for people and organizations to help us do just that–and sooner rather than later.

We’re striving to create a new way of life by using what we have available while NOT being able to live in or participate in the systems we advocate.

Criticizing a system that forces us to adhere to it through the threat of starvation and homelessness is part of helping people understand what the problems are and how they can be addressed.

The other half of the equation is spreading new ideas that promote positive change and working to create that change in our own lives and communities.

Our long-term goal is to create cooperative structures and mutual aid networks that can eventually make our systems of money and trade obsolete.

Yes, this is a massive undertaking that will likely not happen for many years, but the sooner we can hire people in full-time positions who are dedicated to creating these systems, the better.

Then, people can focus on creating these systems 100% and don’t have to go out into the regular world and hold a full-time job just to pay rent and survive. Their focus can be and remain on helping their communities and facilitating the growth and development of these new social and economic systems.

In order for us to be taken seriously or have any chance of becoming a formidable force in this world, we have to utilize the current structures we have.

Because we are not able to live in a world without money, at the moment, does not mean that we are not committed to spreading the message and educating others about the possibilities of obsoleting money with new social and economic systems.

We are dedicated to working together and taking steps to eradicate the old and outdated imaginary coinage currency we call money.

And, ironically…that will take money.

So, if you could help us in that regard, we greatly appreciate it, and every penny really does count. Donations are a significant part of our income and help us pay for everything from attorney fees to hosting services, to peoples’ living expenses, and more.

The more you can help us, the more we can do.
