24 Hours Life of A Durian Farmer : Behind The Scenes
Not long ago, I was armed with a DSLR slung over my left shoulder and a tripod over the other. It was like walking through a minefield, blind folded.
The rhythmic “BOOM” set off by yet another Boadicea covered fruit hitting the ground like a continuous Cherokee drum, was the only guidance of where not to step as I cautiously wandered into the deep abyss of darkness.
My traction-less Timberlands performed a mini burn out as I struggled to keep up with a seasoned durian farmer in an attempt to descend from what felt like the summit of Mount Everest.
Prudence dictated that I turn back, but my gastronomic curiosity got the better of me as the light morning breeze shifted giving me a whiff of the strong aroma of the fruit, which served as a mild warning to what lay ahead.
Legend says, “Durians Have Eyes”. Whoever brave enough to traverse through those sacred grounds mid-season, braving an avalanche of falling durians shall be protected.
