Authentic Thai Food In The Heart of Singapore
Sawadeekrap! Sabai Dee Mai? Came the sing-song greeting in an authentic Thai accent as the waiteress ushered us to our seats amongst the bustling lunch crowd on the afternoon we visited.
They certainly have come along way and even opened a second branch in Yishun not too long ago.
We had barely any time to enjoy the ambiance within before dishes started flying out of the kitchen.
We started with a serving of piping Hot Spicy Pantai with Sotong (SGD 14). To our delight, the squid was crunchy and the gravy which accompanied wasn’t too spicy that it was trying to blow our palette.
We then followed with 5 pieces of Pandan Chicken (SGD 12). Each juicy piece of chicken and a seductive turmeric scent and was wrapped in pandan leaves delighting us with every bite.
One of the most popular dishes to the locals in Thailand is the Thai Style Lard Minced Pork (SGD 12) .
The other is Stir fried Kai Lan with Roast Pork (SGD 12) which is usually accompanied with a portion of steaming hot jasmine rice.
Our favourite dish of the day was the Coconut Chicken Soup (SGD 12) which is easily mistaken for Tom Yum given its reddish appearance. However, do not let looks fool you as the soup was not spicy at all. It had a rich coconut aroma and was filled with a generous amount of juicy chicken chunks which left us hungry for more.
We had a sweet conclusion to the satisfying meal with fragrant Mango Sticky Rice (SGD 8) with a generous amount of coconut for us to scoop over the top.
We also had Velvety Coconut Ice Cream with crunchy Red Ruby (SGD 7) to bring our temperatures down before we headed back out to battle the scorching sun.
All in all it was a very authentic meal with a pretty homely ambiance. But if you intend to visit during the meal times, be prepared for a short wait as the queues can get pretty long. Well the good news is, the restaurant does provides stools for patrons to sit while waiting.
