Home Baker Review : Nya

My Original Published Article on Eater : 38 Places To Eat in Kuala Lumpur 2022

This home baker played a vital role in deciphering the enigma to authentic Nyonya Kueh. “Time, patience, real ingredients and no shortcuts,” were the words whispered into my ear by Ms. Wong. Her passion originates from her deeply rooted baba heritage from the outskirts of Melekka.

Although the use of artificial colouring and flavours would save her much time, she follows her father’s method of cooking only by ways of traditional methods by using freshly extracted pandan leaves and blue pea flowers, supplemented by rich gooey gula melaka and yam resulting in vibrant shades of aromatic kueh.

Much love and passion goes into each delicacy as they are prepared daily in the wee hours of dawn starting as early as 3am, in order for them to be ready for consumption by 9am. Don’t forget to place your orders early as their best sellers sell out pretty quick!
