Its Beauty Lies In The Details

arrived to be greeted by the crisp and refreshing cool air. A stark contrast to the carbon monoxide filled atmosphere we have been used to in the city.

The Honeymoon Suite

Although it started drizzling not long after we arrived, we soon discovered that indoor activities are aplenty.

A Rustic “Fireplace”

Upon check in, we wandered around the Smoke House and soaked in its rustic charm.

The Frontage of The Smoke House

Similar to cottages you find on the outskirts of Britain, its interior was slightly dimly light with a beautiful garden surrounding the cottage.

The View of The Room From The Mirror

Alex whispered to us that the beauty lies in the details. If you take time to admire the little items in the rooms and even within the common areas, you are bound to find little trinkets and memorabilias collected from around the world by the family members during their travels.

The Ensuite Bathroom

Even the toilet roll holder had a story to tell with origins from Portobello Market in London.

A Wet & Wild Day In The Garden

As the rain mercifully slowed to a drizzle, a gentle mist floated just above the lawn as we took a stroll with Alex in the lead. The air was crisp with the choir of birds chirping in the background.

The Beautiful Garden with Vibrant Coloured Flowers

Against the dramatic splash of colourful flowers were a variety of aromatic herbs and even those found in our childhood cough syrup.

The Beautiful Garden with Fragrant Flowers

If you take a closer look, you will realise that even portions of the garden have been named after family members.

The Beautiful Garden with A Touch of England

Out front where one can enjoy high tea or simply sit on the metal chairs and tables whilst enjoying the view, a London phone box lies amongst the lush greenery providing a picture perfect backdrop for instagrammable photos.

The Beautiful Garden with Relics Left From The War

When one thinks of traditional English pub food, the usual suspects spotted on the menu tend to be fish and chips, bangers and mash, and if you are lucky, a couple of pies.

Here at the smoke house, they offer the full authentic English experience.

Roasts served with Yorkshire pudding

Portions are as huge as we recall Britain’s portions to be and they even had roasts served with Yorkshire pudding and our personal favourite, Mulligatawny soup.

A Grilled Portebello Mushroom

To date, the only other places in Asia we have spotted Mulligatawny soup offered on the menu were the British clubs and the Tanglin Club.

Mushrooms with Melted Mozzarella Cheese

Last but not least, no meal is complete without a perfect sweet ending with a touch of sour.

Crepe Suzette

Today we settled for their Crepe Suzette. Though it wasn’t prepared table-side with the flaming theatrics, it was still perfect nonetheless and enjoyed best by the fireplace.

The Fire Place at Night

When life passes us by so quickly, rarely do we take time to slow down and smell the roses.

The Rustic Interior of The Common Areas

However, at The Smoke House, time stands still and captures beautiful moments.

Take time to peek into every corner, and the charming British cottage will reveal glimpses into its rich and beautiful past with unique and intricate memorabilias taking one down a trip down memory lane.
