Schools and education system today encourage students to take the rote learning method just so that the students may advance to the next standard or class. Are students actually learning anything from that method though? If we look at the graduates today, they are highly unemployable as a rough figure suggests that 93% of graduates in engineering are unemployable. The reason behind that being the lack of training and skills students possess. If the students were instead taught in a conceptual and creative way, we would not have faced such a dilemma that we are facing today. Let us not forget the economy also depends on the employment rate, and with the current economy as it is we are sure to be facing a major crisis if something is not done about the students’ education.

Conceptual and/or creative learning is a learning method that must be introduced immediately to the schooling and education system here in India. Conceptual and creative learning requires students to solve situation related problems. Taking an example of mathematics, students will not know when to apply arithmetic in life if they keep on solving direct questions, however, if they are provided with real-world problems then they will become prepared for the future. After all, schools are meant to hone the natural skills within a student while teaching them new skills that will become useful to them in the future, rather than forcing them to advance to the next class by first rushing through the syllabus and then encouraging students to rote learn the syllabus. In rote learning method, students develop foundational knowledge but are not able to understand the meaning of the concepts and cannot link the knowledge they rammed into their brains to new and previous knowledge. While in conceptual learning, students obtain a deep understanding behind the concepts and hence are able to link the knowledge they soaked in their brain to any new or prior knowledge that they have obtained. In addition to that, conceptual learning also encourages active learning techniques.

Monkpedia.com is an online platform for getting the ‘right fit’ home tutor for students as it provides tech education services. The service condemns the rote learning method looking at the state at which the current batch of graduates is finding themselves in today. Monkpedia is all about molding the students’ strengths and weaknesses. What we mean by molding strengths and weaknesses is to maintain strengths while working on the weaknesses of the students, as we understand that every student is unique from one another in their own way. Monkpedia encourages its tutors to give creative tasks to students for the students’ growth and understanding. We all have gone through the rote learning process for years and we can see what it has done to the youth; now let’s try another learning method for a change. There is a reason why almost every child today aspires to go to the west to pursue higher studies instead of here, at home.
