Hi Monopolers!

This week we will discuss several important points:

  • News from Monopole, the different focuses and why the team is less active on the networks and + under the radar.
  • For Mother’s Day, we decided to highlight the “project mums” we support through the platform. This week, meet Léa & Sophie.
  • This week we talk to you about Thomas, our impact officer and the actions we have already put in place with We Act 4 Earth.

Currently focused on adding key partners as well as Vc’s and family office, Monopole is working behind the scenes to consolidate the project, also reworking it so that the message is clearer about who we are and what we are going to be on a daily basis as well as our local impact.
The team is also in the process of sending out the forms for the various launchpads, listings and labels.

In a market like the one we are currently experiencing, it was essential for us to have this B to B direction.
The objective remains security and sustainable deployment for users and employees.

We would also like to say that every year in May the market is not as good as in the summer. That is why we will give a big boost to the month of June.
We are also preparing the launch of Latin America for September.

On the mobile application side, Mariano and Esteban are working on the coding of the mobile application for a beta.

Plan

With Mother’s Day, we introduce you to Léa and Sophie this week. They are the project leaders alongside Monopole.

Sophie Comte of Chut!

Sophie answered our questions on the place of women in entrepreneurship and technology.
To introduce you to Sophie, this radiant woman is one of the 3 associates of “Chut!”, a French media allowing the development of technological understanding.

In your opinion, what is the place of women today within the tech or entrepreneurial field?

The place of women in tech and entrepreneurship is clearly insufficient. There are only 10 to 15% of women in technical digital jobs. As for startups, only 1% of them are founders. And this is despite all the speeches and injunctions to “dare”, to be bold. Despite all the actions carried out by numerous groups and associations working for gender equality and parity in this field, through education, training and recruitment. Yet women were more numerous in the 1980s, almost 20%.

However, the presence of women in technology is necessary, even vital to this sector with strong economic stakes, which builds the professions of today and tomorrow, because without them, inequalities and discrimination are perpetuated and even reinforced. Unfortunately, there is no shortage of examples of algorithms with sexist and racist biases, from this recruitment AI created by Amazon that did not bring up female profiles, to a facial recognition application that did not recognise black people.

Fewer women running startups? The answer may lie with the people who fund these same startups, as they are overwhelmingly male, whether they are business angels or investment funds. Women thus have great difficulty convincing groups of men who do not recognise themselves in their project, when they do not clearly fail to trust them because they judge that they will not do the job.

Yet in so-called developing countries, women in tech are sometimes more numerous, as in India and Tunisia. These same countries are not examples of gender equality in general. What does this say about our Western societies? Quite simply that when equality is never achieved and a new sector or market opens up, inequalities reappear. We need safeguards, we need to be able to anticipate the risks inherent in change.

What would you like to impact/improve in your areas?

Financing seems to me to be a key point. More funding for women’s projects and, at the same time, more women funding these same projects are two essential levers from an economic point of view, but also from a social and societal point of view. At a time when the latest IPCC report is coming out, impact projects must become the norm to create a healthier and more virtuous economy. As we know today, the majority of impact projects are developed by women, in sectors such as care or education. When will one of these startups be among the French unicorns?

I would also like to see representations of positions of power evolve, so that when you search for “CEO” or “startup” on Google image, you don’t systematically find white men. On this point, standards must evolve to allow all women to identify themselves.

Léa De Carmo of “Raduga” & “The Real Bagdad Cafe”

Léa De Carmo is an ambitious and persevering young woman. She wants to show the world the moments she captures through these life encounters.
In the process of making a documentary called “The Real Bagdad Cafe”, Monopole is now supporting her through the financing of the latter.

In your opinion, what is the place of women today within the tech or entrepreneurial field?

I hope to see more and more women in leadership positions in the years to come, who can in turn raise up other women around them.

What would you like to impact/improve in your areas?

My ambition is to one day be in a position of power myself to help other women be heard and share their sensibilities through the medium of film.
For a long time we have heard the same stories told by the same people without being able to listen to women’s points of view.
We are all enriched by a diversity of words, allowing each of us to recognise ourselves through a multitude of characters and stories.
I’m glad to see the film industry moving more and more in this area. When I was a child I never thought I would be a film director or producer. Today I know that it is possible because of so many pioneers who have inspired me, paved the way and given me a chance.
