An Introduction To An Introduction

How could or should one go about introducing an introduction? It seems the most obvious solution to this problem is for people to introduce themselves.

But do you really care that I am a master’s level philosophy student? Sounds quite boring, doesn’t it? Do you care that I get writing published regularly? Not really, you may enjoy my writing, but that is about it. See people really don’t care about each other, let alone people, and especially not other people presenting themselves.

In order to introduce an introduction, you must make that introduction impersonally selfish. What does this contradictory statement even mean? A good introduction to an introduction should tap into the selfishness of others. You must present something others care about for themselves. This care could be as petty as pure entertainment or as deep as assisting to fix a major mental health issue.

No one cares what you care about. People can only care about what they care about. Introductions are for others anyways, you already know what you are introducing, you are trying to hook others. NO introduction is about oneself! Nor should it be. Introductions by their very structure are built for the other.

With that let me introduce you to introducing. Engage the other for their otherness and make yourself a vessel for them. Tap into something they want and be a thing that they want. Nobody wants you; they want something they care about, and you are at best an embodiment of this care. Being the symbol, the representation of something they care about because you can never actually be the thing they care about. This is how you introduce something, you point to that something without revealing it.
