Fire is one of the five major elements on Earth, the source of heat and power. Since humans discovered fire, it became an extremely useful resource as we evolved, not only for light and warmth at night, but to frighten off predatory animals, and the smoke would have been effective in keeping insects away.

Nowadays modern technology introduced many varieties to generate
FIRE in the form of Gas, Electricity, etc., making it easily accessible.
On the dark side, if not controlled, fire can cause great destruction and injury.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS🔥🔥🔥

When one is being asked which is the most effective tool to save ourselves and the environment from accidental hazards, most will answer water. Water indeed is a good fire extinguisher. But, water cannot be used to extinguish electrical fires. This is because water is a good conductor of electricity. It can cause electric shock and can harm the person who is trying to put it off, and when trying to put out burning oils like petrol, diesel, etc. Why? Oil is lighter than water and so it floats over it and continues to burn.

The water can spread and carry the oil with it, resulting in extending the fire over more area. This is why fire safety equipment is a crucial preventive measure against unexpected fires. Fire Extinguishers are considered the first line of defense in saving lives and avoiding extensive damage.

The ability to control the fires helps to put out small fires. Not only that, by putting out the fire at the primary level, the extinguisher helps us limit the amount of pollution caused in the environment from burning debris and smoke.

There are six different types of fire, and each one must be put out by a corresponding fire extinguisher — Water, Foam, Dry Powder, CO2, and Wet Chemical.

Based on the type of Fire classes which are categorized as :

🔥Class A fires — combustible (solid) materials: caused by ordinary combustible such as flammable solids, paper, wood, and fabric or textile. You must use water extinguishers to put out class A fires.

🔥Class B fires — flammable liquids: a common hazard in industries dealing with fuels i.e. petrol, lubricants, and certain types of paint. Class B fires need to be tackled with a foam fire extinguisher.

🔥Class C fires — flammable gases: like hydrogen, butane, propane, or methane. You must take very special care with class C fires due to the explosion risk. The gas supply should be switched off, if possible, and then only dry powder fire extinguishers have efficacy against gas fires.

🔥Class D fires — combustible metals: a danger in laboratory environments where combustible metal is used as its fuel source. Examples of such combustible metals include titanium, magnesium, aluminium, and potassium. Dry powder extinguishers are most suited to class D fires.

🔥Electrical fires — electrical equipment: Electrical fires are common in industries that deal with energy or make use of heavy electrically-powered equipment such as electric heaters or computers. The first stage should be to switch off the electricity supply, if possible. Then, either use dry powder extinguishers or carbon dioxide extinguishers on electrical fires. In any environment in which water damage is not an option, such as a computer room, an ATM centre, a server room, a storage facility for fuel and flammable liquids, an oil filling station, a transformer, a car garage, a marine engine, paint and varnish booth, a welding bench, domestic gas storage, particularly in hotels, and other similar environments, automatic fire extinguishers are a must.

🔥Class F fires — cooking oils: Usually from the kitchen during food preparation such as a deep frying pan fire or fire from cooking oil. Use wet chemical fire extinguishers, created specifically to tackle cooking oil fires.
