Agile testing at mySugr

The first important point to mention is that mySugr is an agile organisation that attracts creative problem-solvers. At mySugr, QA specialists focus on managing the product life cycle and verifying that the mobile and web applications meet our defined quality standards. Our product teams are cross-functional and consist of at least a Product Owner, Designer, Agile Coach, QA and two to four developers. All team members have diverse skill sets that enable the team to work independently. QAs are integrated in every stage of the development process.

Stop being a functional tester

As a tester, you are usually involved in the quality of software development:

  • You execute tests when the developers tell you they are finished with a project. You conduct tests to ensure new features are ready to be released.
  • You are embarrassed by new bugs.
  • You collect issues and report them to your team, and then move on to the next issue.
  • You are a reactive person and focus on executing exactly what you are told to.

In short, this is exactly what we do NOT desire at mySugr.

Moving into quality assurance

Our QA department is solution-oriented. We are bound to run into obstacles here at mySugr, but we try to be the most effective to overcome these obstacles. We want to prevent bugs by testing early and frequently, this process includes various stages that are covered in our software testing process as Session-based testing, Test Design, Explorative Testing, Release Candidate Testing, System Verification (Integration and Regression Testing) and Post-Release tests. Every stage has its inherent benefits and contributes towards the testing activity, it also speeds up the testing process when there is more collaboration between Testing and Development. Testing remains a part of quality assurance and many “testers” are not able meet all the expectations.

Dealing with a medical device

One very important point to mention is that the mySugr App is a registered risk class 1 medical device, mySugr’s Bolus Calculator module has risk class IIb approval and it involves a strict regulatory review process. Moreover, QAs are responsible for every release, which tends to be, maximum, every 2 weeks. Being fully responsible for the software release implies many sub-tasks like preparing documentation and reviews, leading release meetings (check-in and scope meetings), being accountable for any questions, stability analysis and much more. Our responsibilities are larger than most “testers” and this is why we love our job.

Sphere of activity at mySugr

The coolest thing about our QA team is that we are all involved in different environments from Web to Mobile development, and every QA is specialized in a distinct field such as bluetooth connection, coaching web platform and CGM or BGM data integration, to name only a few. QAs are bound to one team but can evolve over time according to their knowledge and their career paths.

Do you want to apply for a QA position ?

If you are looking for a new job in a QA department and you would like to apply at mySugr, consider that having super testing skills and the ability to find all bugs will not be enough to get a position. A QA position at mySugr requires a variety of things. First of all, a careful balance of creativity and logical thinking in order to compare all possible alternatives during the development process, is very important. Strong decision-making skills are also necessary in order to select the best strategy for your problem and to be able to implement your solution with your team. In addition, as we work closely in a team on a daily basis, we definitely appreciate communicative people with leadership and teamwork skills in our QA department. In any case, go ahead and take a look at our positions. We would be happy to get to know you!
