In today’s macroeconomic environment, investors are shifting towards alternative assets for income in addition to the traditional investments in stocks and bonds. Popular alternatives, such as private equity, private debt, real estate, and collectibles, have offered investors a chance to diversify their portfolios and access additional sources of return.

Fine wine and spirits, in particular, are an incredible alternative asset class that we are bullish on at Montage Ventures. It boasts a low correlation to the public markets, has less volatility, and has outperformed the S&P in the last few decades. Fine wine and spirits have had an average return of 8–25% IRR on collections and 15–30% on futures annually!

Historically, it has been hard for investors to access fine wine given minimums and complex investment vehicles. Vint is building a platform for investors to fractionally invest in wine and spirits, for as little as $50/share. Vint’s experienced team researches and sources these valuable collections in-house, securitizes it, and allows investors to buy shares. When a collection sells, shareholders then receive proceeds on a pro-rata basis.

Vint has curated rare collections of wines and spirits, from rare 100-point Bordeaux wines, to a few cases of 34-year old Japanese Whiskies. Every collection has sold out in minutes on the platform, with over $4M offerings sold to date, and an active community of over 7,500 members.

The team at Vint has deep experience in the investment and wine industries. Nick King (CEO) worked as an investment advisor at Thompson, Siegel & Walmsley before joining forces with Patrick Sanders (CTO) from Capital One. Adam Lapierre, a Master of Wine (he is one of 419 globally and one of 57 in the US), has joined as the Director of Wine at Vint.
