Away or Toward: How to Decide

Stuck in a decision battle with yourself?

Here’s a simple question to ask:

Are you running away from or towards something?

Let’s say you’re in a job that’s just meh. You can either a) stay there, b) get as far away as possible and figure out next steps, or c) figure out what really sparks your excitement and work towards it.

(Of course, there are combinations of the above options, and it’s never a black and white decision.)

What I think it’s important to consider is that running towards something confers you greater rewards: more enjoyment, increased engagement, and the sense that you’re progressing.

Running away from something — while sometimes absolutely crucial — doesn’t necessarily enact the same enthusiasm or forward momentum that its counterpart does.

What do you think? Have you ever made either type of decision? What did they feel like?
