Who Is This “We” Kanye Keeps Talking About?

In case you haven’t already heard, Kanye West has been making headlines these past few days for a bunch of Kanye West reasons. Last week, he posted a picture of himself hanging out with everyone’s favorite douchebag Elon Musk, and just a few days later he announced his plans to run for president in the upcoming election.

A lot of this isn’t exactly news, as Kanye and Musk have been friends for several years now and he previously said he would run for president during the 2015 VMAs (although most of us laughed it off when he admitted he had smoked weed before taking the stage).

Yesterday morning, Forbes published an interview with West and it seemed like a good chance to explain some of the recent craziness. Instead, it’s just one big mess. Ye spends a lot of time talking about God and his hatred of Joe Biden, and he even took some time to come out as pro-life and anti-vaccine. But the biggest thing that stuck out to me was one word that he used over and over again:

“We.”

Kanye spends a lot of time going on and on about what “we the people” need right now, but who exactly is he talking about? Is it his self-centered billionaire family? Is it the Yes-Men he’s surrounded by who continue to enable his extreme narcissism? Your guess is as good as mine, but he’s definitely not talking about you and me.

While Kanye came from humble beginnings, the truth is that he’s been very rich for a very long time, and then he married into a very rich family who is famous for being very rich. However, he still seems to see himself as this underdog kid from Chicago who is giving a voice to the voiceless.

Need proof of just how out of touch he is? Well he admitted he has no foreign policy because we need to “focus on ourselves first” (sound familiar?) and he said he’s running for the Birthday Party, because “when we win, it’s everybody’s birthday.” Oh, and did I mention that he also came out as pro-life and anti-vaccine?

Since the interview came out, people close to Kanye have reportedly come out and said he’s in the midst of a bipolar episode, and it seems like there’s a good chance none of this will actually happen. But the sad truth is there are still people out there who will write his name on their ballot in November, and that’s what makes this all so frustrating.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of celebrities telling US what WE need. Because WE don’t need videos of rich people singing “Imagine” from their mansions. WE don’t overly-dramatic black and white videos of actors saying racism is bad. And WE definitely don’t need another narcissistic asshole in the White House.
