Firefly was born out of a vision to push the limits of DeFi by making DeFi faster, less expensive, more accessible and technologically robust than ever before. We are a lean, technical team with a mission to democratize access to financial markets by building the next generation of financial infrastructure that is permissionless, peer-to-peer and self-sustainable.

2. What is Firefly?

Firefly is the first decentralized exchange for perpetual swaps and options built on Polkadot. Thanks to a more performant underlying chain, as well as support from the Moonbeam and Boba teams and other ecosystem partners, we’re happy to be able to bring this product to the community in a guarded state.

3. What distinctive features are there, which sets FireFly apart from other projects on the market?

Roughly 96% of all trading volume today is captured by centralized exchanges. With decentralized finance becoming more performant and on-chain UX significantly improving, we believe that there will be a migration to decentralized solutions that offer more transparency and universal accessibility.

In the Decentralized Exchange space, we’re differentiating from our competitors by embracing the most innovative decentralized technology. For that, we are pursuing a second deployment that will allow us to be hyper-performant to support institutional trading firms, while also being easy to use, and natively composable with leading Web2 companies.

4. Tell us about the issue that everyone cares about — security. How does your project make it safe for users to use?

We invest a significant amount of development effort into designing secure code and architecture, and frequently reviewing it to ensure quality. We routinely test and re-evaluate our products for code and business logic vulnerabilities. While we believe we have done our best to produce resilient and reliable products, we’ve partnered with PeckShield, to audit the contracts, and Halborn, for a penetration test of the full stack.

5. On which network is FireFly deployed? What was the reason for this choice ?

We’re ready and we’re live on Polkadot in a guarded state. We’ve achieved our first major milestone — becoming the first trading platform to offer perpetuals in the Polkadot network. Now it’s time to keep building and embrace the best tech.

6. Why did you decide to build on Moonbeam?

Our first milestone was to deploy on the Polkadot ecosystem. Moonbeam is the only chain performant enough in the ecosystem to support Firefly.

7. What important milestones should we expect in the near future ?

Currently we are in a guarded launch that allows us to test integrations, ensure sufficient market maker uptime and liquidity, validate performance, add markets, and explore cross-chain messaging for more security and trust. Once it can hit certain performance, liquidity, and accessibility milestones (likely December 2022), Firefly will be open to all!
