Behind the scenes of ‘Design Disruptors’ screening at Moonraft, Bangalore

August 2016 marked the start of something awesome in Moonraft history. We kicked off an initiative to have frequent design events — ranging from movies to discussions to guest speakers and the likes. All of this with the objective of making the Indian design community more connected, active, and in tune with the trends of the global design.

We kicked it off by hosting the Bangalore premier of the InVision produced documentary ‘Design Disruptors’. We became a part of an exclusive and elite club which had 109 screenings globally, 4 in South East Asia and just 1 in India!

Within minutes of announcing the event on Facebook and setting up the invite page, the event went viral…RSVPs started piling up and pretty soon we had a full house! Our capacity of 150 was exhausted within hours and another 50 were in waiting list. The event was buzzing and how!

In a nutshell, it was any marketers dream event, where promotion costs were minimum and the returns were through the roof! Our invite e-mailers had an open rate of almost 90%, we were having close to 300 Facebook page visits everyday, umpteen number of request from waitlisted attendees asking if their tickets had been confirmed. We even had people flying down all the way from Delhi to view this documentary. There was some serious excitement and passion being shown!

This excitement was matched by the Moonraft team organizing the screening. We were pretty confident that the documentary would be stellar and the attendees wouldn’t be disappointed. What we needed now was to ensure that the entire event experience lives up to that of the movie.

In order to give the attendees a pulse of Moonraft, we decided to convert our innovation labs into an auditorium! Being a prototyping lab which has prototyped genius innovations like Vera and Catamera, getting a screen up and converting the existing lab space into a screening venue was not much trouble and was done in a jiffy!

Behind the scenes

The screening venue was given a feel of a rustic warehouse, which was not very different from our existing innovation labs environment. The screen was set up on two vertical steel racks, wooden cartons were used as projector stands, ladders used as back row seating…there was not a dull space in the whole lab. We were all set to give the audience an experience of our Moonraft culture!

On the day of the screening, people started trickling in around 3:30pm for the 4pm show. Lots of networking, Popcorns, Samosas and one kick-ass documentary made up a stellar event. Want a glimpse of how it went? Check out the video!

And here are some photos from the screening…

This was a great start to what we hope will be a series of vibrant and engaging design events. Here’s to a great screening and cheers to many more!
