5 Reasons Why Everyone Should Invest

You might think that investing is too risky. But that is not true. The truth is that not investing is a bigger risk. Why?

1. Saving money “in a mattress” of cash or short-term investments does not let you keep up with inflation. This means that you are losing money by not putting it to work.

2. Your financial independence for the future is unstable. Relying on the state to provide you with pension would not allow you to continue with the lifestyle you are used to. If pension is your solely source of income, you might find yourself dependent on your grown children.

3. You can’t choose the future you want to have. When work is your only source of income, your options are limited to doing what is needed to get the next paycheck — to survive until the next one. If you have an extra source of income that investing provides, you have the freedom to do what you want to do — and when you want to do it.

Besides being a tool for doing things you want to do in your life, investing opens other doors, too.

4. You get to support the causes you care about by supporting the companies you believe in. When you invest in a company providing water for people in Africa, you are helping people in Africa.

5. You become an owner in an exciting company or companies, and get to be a part of something bigger than yourself. Investing in a startup, you get to see it grow, and grow together with it as an investor.

And the best thing is that you don’t need to be a rich stock guru to invest in extraordinary companies and earn returns. With equity crowdfunding, you can invest little in promising early-stage startup portfolios, and get the benefits of being an investor.

It is important to remember that you can never be 100% sure what is going to be “the next big thing”. Airbnb was rejected 7 times by experienced venture capitalists in its early stage. If you want to invest, do your research, but don’t wait until you find the “sure thing”.
