1. What does Hemploom aim to do in the long term? Why should customers adopt its products?

Hemploom is India’s first sustainable handloom brand that manufactures a wide selection of collectables using Hemp fabric. Our manufacturing unit aims to work in the B2B segment in the long run and produce its own fabric with the help of Indian artisans and labourers. Thus, not only contributing to the ‘Make in India’ initiative (PM Modi’s aggressive push to revive an ailing manufacturing sector) but also generating more employment opportunities in the country.

Cooperatives, garment exporters and retailers in India will soon have a chance to completely boycott Chinese goods and use Indian fabric for their business models. Our organization not only aims to promote eco-friendly solutions and sustainable products but also spread awareness about organic hemp and its abundant benefits for the environment.

We also aim to support farmers in India by encouraging them to grow more hemp, which is not only easy to grow but also saves cost as it requires lesser time, water and other resources as compared to plants like cotton, jute, etc. Through our business model, we strongly wish to promote the talent of Indian artisans and embrace our agricultural land where growing a variety of high-quality crops is an utmost possibility.

2. What new formulations/product innovations can we expect from Hemploom in the near future? How will they be different from the existing products?

Hemploom has grown out of a long-held desire to provide handmade products made by Indian artisans who are not only extremely talented but also nurture each product with love, care and cultural values. Each of our items is made by hand as we do not believe in fast fashion or production in bulk.

Made with a personal touch and a hint of luxury, none of our products contain any use of chemicals or pesticides. Our product innovations focus on sustaining the legacy of art and craft along with promoting the sustainability of the environment. With issues such as farmer’s rights, globalisation, Covid-19 and increasing pollution — we aim to make a difference through our product and service innovations.

The latest additions to our B2B model are also in process. We have planned to launch new services which are currently in the R&D phase. The services include yarn manufacturing which refers to producing yarn that is exclusively made in India. Next is green paradise, as the name suggests, we are promoting greenery through plants and selling them directly to our customers. Along with these services, we are soon launching an indoor plants collection for the benefit of air purification, to reverse pollution and carbon dioxide and to also offer healing properties for the mind and body.

3. Does Hemploom provide manufacturing services for other businesses at present? If yes, what products does it manufacture?

Yes, Hemploom does provide manufacturing services for other businesses at present. There are a number of services that we offer to other retailers, businesses and brands such as white labelling — where we customise the fabric as per client’s requirement after deep analysis conducted by our R&D department. MOC is not a constraint for us as we only believe in delivering quality and promote eco-friendly and biodegradable products.

Brands can also approach us for manufacturing hemp and other organic fabric-based products with their label on it. Apart from providing services, we are also giving an opportunity to entrepreneurs to get involved in the growing Hemp industry. It does not stop here! We also provide eco-friendly screen printing solutions.

We print fabric with non toxic water based inks using the best artwork and traditional techniques. We have conducted studies which have proven the negative environmental impact of mass-manufactured products and fast-fashion apparel. With our environmentally conscious practices, we aim to invite more like-minded people to join our mission by offering them our services.
