It seems like everybody nowadays is joining the bandwagon that is engaging social media, specifically people between the ages of about 12–30. With so many different social media platforms out there it seems like everyone is bound to find one they’re interested in and join. Anybody that has access to a computer or smartphone/device is able to join a social network site. That being said, social media becomes a place where average people and famous people meet.

Lots of celebrities love to post on social media accounts such as Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat. It’s a perfect way to give themselves some free advertising/promotion and it gives them a chance to show their personality. Social media presents a lot of opportunities for celebrities both good and bad. On the good side, they can interact with their fans and get feedback on things they have said or done. They also get to portray themselves as who they truly are, because sometimes celebrities personalities can get lost among rumors and their performances. On the other side, social media is a common place for hurtful people to take out their anger. There are always going to be people that beat down on celebrities since they are in the spotlight and unfortunately that is something that they have to learn to look past and not let bother them.

Without social media, fans would have a harder time becoming fans. Whether you’re a fan of a famous musician or a professional sports team, you wouldn’t be able to get as much information as you do if it weren’t for social media. Social media allows you to get new information on whatever you’re interested in within your daily schedule. Since celebrities are in the spotlight they have to be very careful about the things they say online and how others will perceive them, because once it’s out there it’s out there for good. But overall, the connection that celebrities make with their fans is priceless and I believe it is an overall positive experience for the public and for the celebrities.
