How Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter are alike

Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat are slowly starting to mesh together and have similar features. Instagram originally started with just sharing pictures with others but now it has features similiar to twitter and snapchat.

When people post pictures on Instagram you can comment on their photos and now you can “like” peoples comments, just like you can like peoples tweets on twitter. Twitter is also copying Instagram in a way because when twitter first came out you “favorited” tweets and now twitter changed it to “liking” tweets.

Another way Instagram is trying to be like Snapchat and twitter is you can direct message people on Instagram. Instagram didn’t incorporate that until until twitter already had DM’s. Snapchat also copied twitter when they created the direct messages or private messaging.

Instagram copied Snapchat when they created “stories”. It even has the same time limit of twenty four hours, simliar to Snapchat. Instagram also copied twitter when Instagram created a feature where you could “save pictures” and view them later. This is similar to how twitter allows you to like tweets and go back and view them later.

Snapchat, twitter, and Instagram are all starting to mesh together but is this a good or bad thing? Do they think that by making these sites similar to each other it will make users want to join one or the other just because they are similar to one another? Or could this be a potential threat to all three of these social medias because users will feel like having just one of these sites could fullfill the purpose of having all three. Either way, it will be interesting to see how these social media sites play out in the next few years.
